Everton Free School’s Danielle Cooper Honoured at Royal Garden Party for Her Work with Vulnerable Young People

On Tuesday 20th May, Danielle Cooper, Attendance and Behaviour Lead at Everton Free School, had the honour of attending the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Hosted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the event celebrated individuals from across the UK who have made a significant difference in their communities. Danielle’s invitation followed national recognition of her exceptional work supporting vulnerable children and young people across Merseyside.
Since joining Everton Free School in 2017 as a Teaching Assistant, Danielle has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for young people often at risk of exclusion or disengagement. Her journey through alternative education has seen her earn Qualified Teacher Status, take on a youth engagement role, and lead a Department for Education-funded initiative focused on integrated support for students. Now, as the school’s Attendance and Behaviour Lead, she combines teaching, family outreach, and youth engagement to ensure students are empowered to succeed in education and beyond.
Danielle’s approach prioritises collaboration with families and external partners, including the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership and YPAS, to address the root causes of absenteeism and disengagement. Her work helps shield young people from exploitation, reduce barriers to learning, and foster positive community connections.
Beyond the classroom, Danielle leads enrichment activities during school holidays and has pioneered peer mentoring programmes and community projects that offer students real-world experiences and support networks.
Her invitation to the Royal Garden Party stands as a tribute to her ongoing dedication to inclusive education and the holistic development of every student. It also recognises the shared commitment of staff at Everton Free School to delivering meaningful, student-centred support.
Danielle has previously received a number of prestigious awards for her impact, including the 2023 ‘Inspirational Leader in Alternative Provisions’ accolade from The Worshipful Company of Educators and the British Empire Medal (BEM) in HM The King’s Birthday Honours for services to vulnerable youth.
Her visit to Buckingham Palace is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Everton Free School and the wider Merseyside community.
