Everton Free School Engineering Team Competes in STEM on Track Grand Finals at Wilton Mill

Everton Free School’s engineering students recently took part in the prestigious STEM on Track Grand Finals, held at Wilton Mill Karting Track—one of the UK’s top racing circuits. This national event brought together student teams from across the country, all of whom had spent months preparing to compete at the highest level of STEM-based karting and innovation.

Representing Everton Free School with pride and professionalism, our students demonstrated a wide range of technical and collaborative skills throughout the event. The competition required participants to engage in all aspects of engineering design, from kart construction and mechanical tuning to telemetry data analysis and race strategy development. Working in a high-pressure, real-time environment, the team exemplified the values of focus, determination, and critical thinking.

The Grand Finals were not only the culmination of an intense learning journey—they were also a celebration of talent, innovation, and resilience. Over several months, our students dedicated countless hours to refining their designs, testing their ideas, and building confidence in their abilities. Their success at Wilton Mill is a testament to the commitment they brought to every stage of the project and to the strength of the school’s STEM provision.

Beyond the competitive element, the event offered a valuable platform for real-world learning. Students had the chance to collaborate with like-minded peers from other schools, speak with industry experts, and gain insight into career pathways within engineering, motorsport, and broader STEM fields. It was an experience designed to inspire ambition and broaden horizons—something our students embraced wholeheartedly.

"The support from staff at Everton Free School was truly commendable. Their commitment to the students’ learning and development was evident throughout the competition. It’s clear that the school fosters a culture of encouragement, discipline, and ambition—qualities that shone through in every member of the team."

This success would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the dedicated staff at Everton Free School. From guiding technical development to mentoring students in teamwork and time management, staff played an integral role throughout the journey. Their expertise, encouragement, and belief in the students’ potential helped unlock opportunities for growth, learning, and achievement far beyond the classroom.

We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Sprit Foundation, whose generous sponsorship made this opportunity a reality. Their investment in young people and education reflects a deep commitment to nurturing future talent in STEM industries. By supporting experiences like STEM on Track, they are helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in their future careers.

As our students reflect on their unforgettable experience at Wilton Mill, they do so with pride—and with a growing excitement for what lies ahead. Whether they choose to pursue engineering, data science, motorsport, or another STEM-related field, they will carry forward the lessons they’ve learned through this experience: resilience, collaboration, and the power of applied knowledge.

We are incredibly proud of the team’s achievements and look forward to building on this success in future STEM initiatives at Everton Free School.
