Chief Executive Officer, The People's Learning Trust

It is an honour to be the CEO of The People's Learning Trust and we are proud to be part of the Everton family; our approach to study, and our learner experience, truly embraces the philosophy of Everton Football Club who have provided such tremendous support to us. Our direct association with Everton Football Club both motivates, and inspires, our journey of success. Our working premise is “That will do, won’t do. For us, it is the best or nothing.” This aligns with the mission statement of Everton Football Club, ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ and is our place holder as we work with our Founder Schools and all stakeholders to develop a new mission statement, vision and values for our Trust.

Our Trust is dedicated to transforming lives through education, rooted in the values of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation. These principles shape everything we do, ensuring our students, staff, and communities grow and thrive together.

MAT Introduction

We are committed to creating a compassionate, collaborative, and innovative environment where inclusivity, trust, positive relationships, and a love of learning empower individuals to excel and contribute positively to our global community.

How we started

The People’s Learning Trust was founded in April 2024 with the goal of transforming education through inclusivity, innovation, and collaboration. Born from Everton Free School and Football College, we are proud to be the only Multi-academy Trust supported by a Premier League Football Club. This unique connection allows us to leverage the power of the wider Everton family to deliver exceptional outcomes for students and communities.

What makes our trust unique?

Our partnership with Everton Football Club (EFC) and Everton in the Community (EitC) gives us a distinct edge. EitC’s work in using sport to identify and support vulnerable people aligns with our inclusive, trauma-informed approach. Together, we provide students with access to world-class opportunities that combine education, sports, and personal development. This holistic model supports students’ academic achievements while fostering resilience, creativity, and a sense of belonging.

We are committed to supporting students with complex needs, including those at our referral units, where past exclusions may have left them feeling isolated. Our personalised, innovative curricula focus on 21st-century skills, preparing students to be active citizens locally, nationally, and globally.

What sets us apart is our collaborative and democratic ethos. Founder Schools in our Trust play an active role in shaping its direction, ensuring alignment with our shared values. Schools retain their unique identities while benefiting from strategic support, professional development, and a quality assurance model that promotes consistency and excellence.

Our ambitious growth model includes working with schools across the Liverpool City Region and beyond. Through partnerships with key organisations, we are expanding our reach to deliver meaningful change.

At The People’s Learning Trust, we are building more than a network of schools; we are creating a legacy of opportunity and success that will benefit future generations.

What is unique about our trust

At The People’s Learning Trust, we believe that people are stronger together; at their best when they can welcome diversity and use differences to bring about positive change. A key part of our role is to bring people together, promote positive communication, increase understanding and tolerance, promote trust, build relationships, and help make life better for those with whom we have contact.

In addition to our links with Everton Football Club, we are proud of our partnership with Everton in the Community which is one of the UK’s top sporting charities. Their work dovetails perfectly with our own as we strive to provide our learners with the best possible educational outcomes whilst simultaneously tackling social issues. We believe passionately that The People’s Learning Trust’s wider network, with the links to Everton Football Club and Everton in the Community, through our common values, brand and reputation, can contribute significantly to helping young people in achieving positive educational outcomes. The highest expectations, an inclusive approach, a commitment to safeguarding and a determination to cultivate success for young people are at the heart of everything we do.
