London, Monday 12 May 2025 – Everton Free School proudly represented the North West at the esteemed Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Celebration, held at the iconic Buckingham Palace. A Remarkable Honour for Alternative Provision

Everton Free School was especially proud to be one of the few alternative provision schools represented at the Palace, a distinction that underscores its unwavering commitment to inclusive education and to providing high-quality opportunities for all learners, regardless of background or personal circumstances.

Throughout the day, Jon and Les engaged with a network of fellow educators, DofE organisers, and long-time supporters of the programme. Many expressed admiration for the resilience, motivation, and progress demonstrated by Everton Free School’s students, particularly those who achieved their Gold Award through alternative educational pathways.

“This recognition is a powerful endorsement of what our students can achieve when they’re supported, encouraged, and believed in,” said a spokesperson from Everton Free School. “It’s a proud moment for the entire school community.”

Championing Non-Formal Education

The celebration highlighted the broader value of non-formal education and the transformative impact of programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. By offering practical, skills-based learning opportunities, the DofE Award enables young people to build confidence, resilience, and lifelong skills—traits that are especially impactful for those in alternative provision settings.

The achievements recognised at Buckingham Palace not only reflect the determination of the students themselves but also the dedication of Everton Free School staff, who support their learners at every stage of their journey.

As Everton Free School continues to champion youth development, the event stands as a compelling reminder that with the right approach and support, every student has the ability to thrive and shine—regardless of the obstacles they may face.
